Unwoofled Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Unwoofled is operated by The Pocket App Company LLC, an Illinois limited liability company, 2501 Chatham Rd Ste N, Springfield, IL 62704-4188 ("we", "us"). This explains what Unwoofled collects, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads. There is a shorter notice for website sign-ups, linked at the bottom of this page.
1. What we collect
- Account: your email address and the sign-in method you chose (email link, Apple or Google). Your time zone, so reminders and weekly summaries arrive at the right hour.
- Dog profile: your dog's name, age, weight, sex, where you got your dog, and your answers to the setup quiz and the safety questions (including whether a professional is involved and whether your dog takes behavior medication, as a yes or no).
- Sessions: the walks, alone-time sessions, noise practice and pre-departure-cue practice you log, such as distances, durations, reaction scores, recovery times, stress scores, stress signs you tag, and any notes you type.
- Listener events: if you use the Listener (on this phone, on another of your devices, or on the Listener web page), we store short event records (for example "bark", how sure the detector was, and when). We store events, not sound.
- Your devices: the devices you add on the Devices screen, their name, type and role (listening or receiving alerts), so alerts reach the right device.
- AI coach: when you ask the coach a question, the question is sent to our AI provider to write the answer. We do not store the question or the answer on our servers; we keep only the time of each question, to apply the daily limit.
- Help chat: if you open Help chat, your messages and the answers pass through our help service, and your messages are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to write the answers. To answer questions about your account, the assistant can look up your plan status and your dog's current training step; it cannot change anything. Your app version, phone type and email address go to the help service so a person can follow up if the chat hands you over; your email address is not sent to the AI provider. We keep the conversation for 30 days, then delete it. If you report a bug in the chat, a short summary goes to our crash-report service. Please do not type card numbers or other private documents into the chat.
- Household sharing: if you invite someone to share your dog, we store who is a member and their role. Members can see that dog's profile, plan and sessions and help with its training; people sharing a dog can see each other's email address in the member list.
- Reports: reports you create for a trainer or vet, and the share links you make (they stop working after 30 days).
- Optional clips: short video clips you choose to add to a session. Nothing is added unless you add it. Clips are stored privately and appear in a report link only if you tick "Include in report".
- Purchases: which plan you have and when it ends. Apple, Google and our subscription service handle the payment itself.
- Sign-ups (website): your email address, which form you used, and your choice on the "email me" box. If you sign up from the quiz, your quiz answers and a short result label.
- Analytics, with your consent: which screens and features are used, without the text you type, and never your notes or clips. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland this stays off until you say yes.
- Anonymous training data, unless you switch it off: your sessions and the plan changes that followed them are counted together with many other dogs' (for example "how often did a step forward hold"), grouped only by the type of trigger, the plan level, your dog's weight band and the week. Your notes, your dog's name and anything you type are never part of it. The switch is in Settings ("Improve the plans with my dog's anonymous training data"); in the EU, the UK and Switzerland it is off until you switch it on.
- Crash reports: technical details when the app crashes, such as the device model and the app version. We do not send your name, email or IP address with them.
- Push notification address: a token from your phone so we can send the weekly summary and safety alerts, if you allow notifications. It is removed when you sign out.
2. What we do not collect
- Raw audio. The Listener works out what it heard on the device and sends only the type of sound, how sure it was, and the time. No audio is recorded, stored or sent. (The only sound we store is the sound inside an optional clip you choose to add.)
- Camera images from "Point to measure". The distance tool reads the camera picture on your phone to estimate how far away a dog or person is. Each frame is used on the phone and then dropped. Nothing is saved or sent.
- Live view is never recorded or stored. While an absence session runs, live video or snapshots go from the Listener device to your phone (directly, or through an encrypted relay when a direct connection is not possible), only while the session runs. We do not save them anywhere. Snapshots, if used, are shown and then thrown away.
- Location, contacts or photos you did not choose. Unwoofled does not ask for your location or contacts, and reads your photo library only when you pick a clip.
- Advertising data. Unwoofled contains no advertising tools, and we do not track you across other apps or sites.
3. Why we use it
To run your plan and adjust it; to send "go back in now" alerts to your chosen devices during an absence; to show your progress and make trainer or vet reports that you choose to create; to answer your questions in the AI coach; to send the weekly summary, safety alerts and the renewal reminder; to handle subscriptions; to keep Unwoofled secure and working; and, with your consent, to learn which parts of the app are useful.
When you ask the AI coach a question, we send it your question, your dog's profile and a summary of the last 14 days. We do not send your free-text notes.
Improving the training plans. Unless you switch it off in Settings, we use your session data in aggregate, without your notes, to check that the plan rules work the way the published research says they should: for example, how often a step forward holds, or how many sessions a level takes, counted across many dogs. These are counts grouped by trigger type, plan level, weight band and week; they never include your notes, your dog's name or anything that identifies you or your dog. A person reviews the counts about once a month. The plan rules change only after that review, with a written note of the research behind the change; the app never adjusts the rules for one dog on its own.
4. Who helps us handle your data
We use these companies (called processors) to run Unwoofled. They may use the data only to provide their service to us.
- Supabase: our database, sign-in (including the sign-in emails), file storage, realtime messages between your devices, and server functions.
- RevenueCat: manages subscriptions and tells us which plan you have.
- PostHog: product analytics, only with your consent where the law requires it.
- Sentry: crash reports.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google): delivers push notifications.
- Anthropic: provides the AI model behind the coach, the weekly summary and the help chat.
- Google Firebase: runs the help chat service and stores help-chat conversations for 30 days.
- SendGrid: delivers the message you send from "Report a problem" (and anything you ask the help chat to pass to the team) to our support inbox as an email. The message, your app version, phone type, the screen you were on and, if you gave one, your reply address go with it.
- Resend: sends our other emails, such as website sign-up confirmations and the renewal reminder.
- Render: hosts this website and the Listener web page.
- Google ML Kit: the on-device object detector behind "Point to measure". It runs on your phone and never receives the camera picture. Google may receive anonymous technical information about how the tool performs, such as the device model and app version.
- Cloudflare: relays live video between the Listener and your phone when they cannot connect directly (a "TURN relay", a server that passes encrypted video along). It sees your device's internet address, carries encrypted traffic and stores no video. Cloudflare and Google also run the connection-finding servers (STUN) that help two devices find each other; those servers see internet addresses only.
- Apple and Google: run the App Store and Google Play, take in-app payments, and provide "Sign in with Apple" and Google sign-in if you choose them.
5. How long we keep it
- Account, dog, session and clip data: until you delete it or delete your account.
- Report share links: expire after 30 days.
- Pairing codes: expire after 10 minutes if unused. A Listener pairing ends with the absence session (at most 12 hours).
- Coach: only the time of each question, kept until you delete your account.
- Help chat: conversations deleted after 30 days.
- Website sign-ups: until you ask us to delete them. If you unsubscribe, we keep only what we need to make sure we never email that address again, until you ask us to delete it.
- Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Analytics events are kept for 12 months.
- After you delete your account, we remove your data from our systems. Backups are overwritten on their normal schedule.
6. Export and delete
In the app, go to Settings. You can export everything in a data file (clips come as download links that last 7 days), and you can delete your account. Deleting removes your account, your dogs, plans, sessions, clips, Listener events, devices, reports, share links and coach records straight away. If you own a dog that is shared with a household, deleting your account deletes that dog for every member. If you are a member of someone else's household, only your membership is removed.
No longer have the app? See how to delete your account without the app, or write to us from the email address you sign in with. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription: cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.
For website sign-ups, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to us.
7. Your rights (EU, UK and Switzerland, and similar places)
If you live in the EU, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to see your data, get a copy, update anything that is wrong, ask us to delete it, object to or limit some uses, withdraw consent at any time (for example for analytics, in Settings), and complain to your data protection authority. People in some US states have similar rights. Write to us and we will help.
Our legal bases are: running the service you asked for (contract), keeping it secure and improving it (legitimate interests), and your consent for analytics and marketing emails.
Your data may be handled in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on approved safeguards for that transfer.
8. Children
Unwoofled is for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child has given us data, tell us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use encrypted connections, restrict database access so each account sees only its own data, and keep secrets out of the app. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong sign-in method.
10. Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies.
11. Contact
